Tattoo removal sounds magical but there is a lot of science behind it. We interviewed tattoo removal specialists at Infinity Laser Spa to break down the process of tattoo removal and how it works.

What is laser tattoo removal and how does it work?

Laser tattoo removal is the fastest and most effective way of removing tattoo ink. Laser tattoo removal machine, also known as Q-Switch uses an ultra-short pulse which dissolves ink by heating it. In order to break up ink, you need to heat enough for expansion. However, the zap has to be fast enough so that half of the ink particle remains cooler temperature. Mindblowing, right?

Once the ink is broken, it gets consumed by white cells. Then your liver digests it up until your body gets rid of it.

How long does it take to remove the tattoo?

Even though tattoo removal is an advanced cosmetic procedure, unfortunately, there are no immediate results. Not all tattoos can be removed. The easiest ones to get rid of are black ink ones, small in size. Then blue and green inks come, and finally yellow and red. New tattoos (under a year old) are almost impossible to remove, so it is better to wait.

How do I know if tattoo removal does work on me?

Since you are not going to see results right away, some of our customers are wondering how to find if treatment is actually working. Once tattoo heals, you should notice a lightening of the area. If you don’t see any change after the first treatment, do not panic. There is barely any difference after only one treatment. Schedule your appointments every 4-6 weeks for better results.

Aftercare is also a big part of tattoo removal success. You can read more about what to do between your tattoo removal sessions here.
